After a stellar start over the Republic Day weekend, Akshay Kumar’s latest release, Sky Force, witnessed a sharp decline in box office collections on its first Monday. According to Sacnilk, the film garnered ₹6.25 crore across all languages on January 29, bringing its total earnings to ₹68.50 crore.
The high-octane war drama, which revolves around India’s 1965 airstrike on Pakistan’s Sargodha airbase, marked a promising start with a ₹12.25 crore opening on Friday, January 24. Buoyed by the Republic Day holiday, the film soared higher with ₹22 crore on Saturday and ₹28 crore on Sunday, achieving an impressive ₹62.25 crore weekend total.
However, the critical Monday test proved challenging for Sky Force. The morning shows reported a low 6.01% occupancy, which marginally increased to 10.63% in the afternoon and 12.87% in the evening. The significant drop reflected a decline in audience footfall, a setback after the weekend’s power-packed performance.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had initially praised the film’s weekend momentum, calling it a “wave of hope and optimism” for the industry in 2025. “Sky Force posts an impressive opening weekend total, with Saturday and Sunday [Republic Day] contributing handsomely to its fantastic performance,” Adarsh wrote. However, the Monday figures have cast doubts on the film’s ability to maintain its hold on weekdays.
Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, Sky Force stars Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya as Indian Air Force officers. The ensemble cast also includes Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan. The film revisits India’s first and deadliest airstrike during the Indo-Pak war of 1965, blending patriotic fervor with action-packed storytelling.
While Sky Force has succeeded in giving Akshay Kumar his first double-digit box office opening after a string of flops, the coming days will determine whether the film can recover from the Monday slump and sustain its momentum at the box office.
