Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan Surpasses ₹100 Crore Mark on Day 2, Becomes 5th Highest-Grossing Tamil Film of 2024

Rajinikanth’s latest blockbuster Vettaiyan is off to a roaring start at the box office, continuing to draw massive crowds both domestically and internationally. After a stellar opening day in India with collections of ₹31.70 crore net, the action-packed film maintained strong momentum on its second day, earning ₹24 crore net. This brings the two-day total to ₹55.70 crore net in India, while its global box office numbers have surged past ₹100 crore, thanks to impressive overseas earnings.

Strong Overseas Performance

Vettaiyan‘s success has been significantly boosted by its overseas collections, where it earned over $4.4 million in just two days. The combined gross from India stands at ₹64.80 crore, while the film’s total worldwide collection has reached ₹100.80 crore, as reported by Sacnilk. The majority of the earnings have come from the Tamil version, with dubbed versions contributing ₹6.50 crore.

The fact that the film experienced only a 24% drop in its collections from the opening day is a positive sign for its box office trajectory, suggesting it will continue to perform well in the coming days.

Climbing the Ranks of 2024’s Biggest Tamil Films

In just two days, Vettaiyan has entered the top 5 highest-grossing Tamil films of 2024. The film’s collections have surpassed Captain Miller (₹88 crore) and Aranmanai 4 (₹100 crore), placing it in the fifth spot. The top four films currently are The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) (₹456 crore), Raayan (₹160 crore), Indian 2 (₹151 crore), and Maharaja (₹110 crore).

With its current pace, Vettaiyan is expected to climb further, potentially overtaking Maharaja and Raayan by the end of the weekend. If it continues this trajectory, it could challenge Thalapathy Vijay’s GOAT for the title of the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024.

Star-Studded Cast and Direction

Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan features Rajinikanth in the role of a fearless encounter specialist taking on organized crime. The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, alongside Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, and Manju Warrier in key roles.

While Vettaiyan has received mixed reviews from critics, praise has been showered on its themes and performances. The high-octane action, combined with Rajinikanth’s star power, continues to draw audiences to theaters, ensuring its place as one of the top films of the year.

Future Prospects

With its box office collection rapidly climbing, Vettaiyan is poised for more success in the coming weeks. If the film sustains its pace, it could soon challenge for the top spot, potentially setting new records for Tamil cinema in 2024.
