'Stree 2' Becomes Bollywood's Most Profitable Film, Earns ₹577 Crore Against ₹60 Crore Budget

Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has taken the box office by storm, becoming the most profitable film in Bollywood history. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the horror-comedy sequel was made on a modest budget of ₹60 crore but has amassed a staggering ₹577 crore in earnings in India, according to Sacnilk. The film’s return on investment (ROI) is estimated to be around ₹510 crore, making it one of the biggest financial successes in the industry.

The film, produced by Maddock Films, has outperformed several other successful Bollywood projects. For comparison, Munjya, another Maddock Films production, earned ₹108 crore on a budget of approximately ₹30 crore, as reported by Business Today. Similarly, Stree 2 surpassed Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, which grossed ₹556.36 crore against a budget of ₹100 crore. The ROI for Stree 2 is nearly nine times its production cost, solidifying its place as a major win for Bollywood in 2024.

Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared another major milestone for Stree 2. On Monday, he announced that the film had entered the prestigious ₹600 crore club, making it the first Hindi film to achieve this feat. In a note shared on X, Adarsh wrote, “IT’S 600 PAAR… Stree 2 creates HISTORY as the first Hindi film to achieve this milestone… From metros to non-metros, multiplexes to single screens and urban centres to mass markets, Stree 2 is an OUTRIGHT WINNER across the board.”

Adarsh also shared the film’s remarkable box office journey, with its total collections reaching ₹604.22 crore as of Week 6. The film’s performance has been consistently strong, surprising the industry with phenomenal numbers each week.

Here is a breakdown of the box office figures shared by Adarsh:

  • Week 1: ₹307.80 crore (including Wednesday previews, full release on Thursday)
  • Week 2: ₹145.80 crore
  • Week 3: ₹72.83 crore
  • Week 4: ₹37.75 crore
  • Week 5: ₹25.72 crore
  • Weekend 6: ₹14.32 crore
  • Total (as of Week 6): ₹604.22 crore

With no signs of slowing down, Stree 2 continues to dominate the box office, captivating audiences across multiplexes and single screens alike. As it nears the ₹600 crore milestone, the film has set new benchmarks for profitability in Bollywood, demonstrating the appeal of well-crafted horror-comedy in Indian cinema.
