Actor and producer Sohum Shah has spoken out about the rumors of a fallout with Tumbbad director Rahi Anil Barve, following the latter’s departure from the much-anticipated sequel, Tumbbad 2. In a recent interview with India Today, Sohum clarified that there are no issues between him and Rahi, despite widespread speculation.
Sohum shared that the two have been collaborating for years and that their relationship remains strong. “There are no issues at all. We have been trying to make Tumbbad 2 for the longest time. The delay was due to challenges in cracking the script during the writing stage,” Sohum explained. He also revealed that they are now working with Yogesh Chandekar, the writer behind successful films like Andhadhun and Monica O My Darling, and have finally made progress on the sequel.
Addressing Rahi’s current focus on other projects, Sohum stated that the director has been deeply involved in major productions such as Gulkanda Tales and Raktabhramand. “Recently, we had a screening, and Rahi was there. He was the one who designed Vinayak’s look. Whenever we’re making Tumbbad 2, and we need him, he will be there,” Sohum said. He emphasized that while they did not begin as friends, their working relationship grew into a strong friendship over time. Sohum added that Rahi has been a key figure in boosting his confidence as an actor, especially in playing roles that require commanding, “alpha” characters.
Regarding his departure from Tumbbad 2, Rahi shared a heartfelt message on Twitter, wishing Sohum and the team success with the project. “I wish Sohum and Aadesh all the best for Tumbbad II. I have no doubts it will be an outstanding success,” Rahi wrote. He also mentioned his future plans, stating that once his current projects, Gulkanda Tales and Raktabhramand, wrap up by the end of the year, he aims to start production on Pahadpangira in March 2025. Sohum congratulated Rahi on Twitter, sharing his excitement for Rahi’s upcoming ventures and expressing his continued support.
