Popular Tamil-Telugu singer Kalpana Raghavendar has denied reports of an attempted suicide, stating that she lost consciousness due to an accidental overdose of sleeping pills. She was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad on Tuesday after being found unconscious at her home.
Kalpana’s Statement to Police
After regaining consciousness, Kalpana informed the police that she had taken 18 sleeping pills in total due to difficulty sleeping. She revealed that she had recently traveled from Ernakulam to Hyderabad on March 4 and was struggling with insomnia. Initially, she took eight sleeping pills but later consumed ten more, leading to an overdose.
The police further confirmed that Kalpana had a disagreement with her daughter, who was reluctant to move to Hyderabad for her studies, despite her mother’s suggestion.
Rescue and Hospitalization
Kalpana’s husband grew concerned when she was unreachable over the phone and alerted the Colony Welfare Association. Members of the association, along with police personnel from KPHB Police Station, reached her residence. When she did not respond to their knocks, they entered the house through the kitchen door and found her unconscious. She was immediately shifted to a hospital, where doctors declared her condition stable.
Daughter Denies Suicide Attempt
Kalpana’s daughter, Daya Prasad, also dismissed speculation that her mother had attempted suicide. Speaking to the media, she explained that the overdose was unintentional.
Singer’s Condition Stable
Doctors treating Kalpana have confirmed that she is out of danger and is recovering well. The incident has sparked discussions on mental health and stress management, especially among public figures dealing with professional and personal pressures.
