Bollywood actors Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath have been named in an FIR registered on January 22 at Haryana’s Murthal police station. The complaint accuses the actors, along with 11 others, of involvement in cheating and criminal breach of trust under Sections 316(2), 318(2), and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Complaint Against Human Welfare Credit Cooperative Society
The FIR centers around the Human Welfare Credit Cooperative Society, registered in Indore under the Multi-State Cooperative Society Act, 2002. Sonipat resident Vipul Antil, the complainant, alleged that the society lured investors with promises of high returns through fixed deposit (FD) and recurring deposit (RD) schemes. However, the society allegedly operated under a multi-level marketing model, offering agents incentives to bring in new investors while failing to honor maturity payments.
Antil stated that the society began by halting incentives for agents and then delayed maturity payments to investors. Soon after, the society’s offices were locked, and the owners became unreachable. According to Antil, he personally invested ₹33 lakh in the society as an FD, while his brother Amit, who managed a service center or ‘suvidha kendra,’ deposited over ₹4 crore of investor funds, including those of family and friends.
Deceptive Practices Alleged
The complaint claims that the society assured investors their funds were secure and conducted social events at upscale hotels, disguised as training programs, to attract more investors. Additionally, the society offered services such as ambulance units and mobile ATM vans in some areas to bolster its credibility. It allegedly ran over 250 service centers across Haryana for accepting investor deposits.
As the situation worsened, investors who sought their money back were met with false reassurances. ACP Murthal, Ajeet Singh, stated, “The main complaint is against the society accused of duping people by luring them to invest. We will investigate any role ascribed to Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath.”
Legal Investigation Underway
Authorities are now investigating the actors’ involvement and the society’s activities. The case highlights growing concerns about fraudulent financial schemes that prey on unsuspecting investors with promises of high returns.
Further developments in the investigation will determine the extent of responsibility of the accused individuals and the cooperative society.
