Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan during an attempted burglary at his Bandra residence, will remain in police custody until January 29. A local court in Mumbai extended his custody after police requested more time to recover crucial evidence linked to the incident, which has raised concerns about security in one of Mumbai’s upscale localities.
Details of the Incident
The shocking incident occurred last week when Islam allegedly broke into the actor’s apartment in the 12-story Satguru Sharan building. According to Saif Ali Khan’s statement to the police, he and his wife, actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, were in their bedroom when they heard a house help screaming. Upon stepping out, Khan found the intruder in his son Jeh’s room.
Authorities suspect that Islam scaled the wall of an adjacent compound and used the stairs and fire exit to reach the Khans’ floor. The building’s lack of effective security measures has raised serious questions, especially considering the high-profile residents in the area.
Arrest and Investigation
Islam was arrested three days later from the Hiranandani Estate in Thane district. Investigators are now focused on recovering additional evidence related to the attack and determining whether the suspect had any accomplices or prior knowledge of the apartment’s layout.
The police have also intensified efforts to analyze CCTV footage and enhance security protocols in similar upscale residential complexes.
The case has sparked widespread concern about safety measures in high-profile neighborhoods and prompted calls for stricter security checks in residential buildings across Mumbai.
