Speculations about a rift between actors Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj have circulated for years, but Sathyaraj recently addressed these rumors, shedding light on why he hadn’t acted with Rajinikanth since their last film together in 1986’s “Mr Bharath.” The duo is set to reunite after 38 years in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s upcoming film “Coolie.”
In an interview with Indiaglitz, Sathyaraj clarified that he had turned down roles in Rajinikanth’s “Sivaji” (2007) and “Enthiran” (2010) due to dissatisfaction with the offered roles. He specifically mentioned not being content with the roles that were offered, including Danny Denzongpa’s character in “Enthiran,” an evil scientist corrupting Chitti Robo. Despite these decisions, Sathyaraj emphasized that there were no personal issues between him and Rajinikanth.
The rumored feud between the two actors has been fueled by political comments made by Sathyaraj in the 1990s and statements during the Hogenakkal Falls water dispute in the early 2000s. However, Sathyaraj has never publicly spoken ill of Rajinikanth and has even praised his superstar status in the mid-2000s.
Fans eagerly anticipate their reunion in “Coolie,” where they will be seen together on-screen once again. Although details about Sathyaraj’s role or the film’s plot remain under wraps, the movie is already generating buzz, especially with Rajinikanth’s 171st film and a teaser hinting at a storyline involving gold smuggling. Anirudh Ravidhander will compose the film’s music.
Apart from “Coolie,” Sathyaraj is also rumored to be part of AR Murugadoss’ “Sikander,” alongside Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna. Additionally, he is set to star in Vasanth Ravi’s “Weapon,” scheduled for release on June 7.
