In a recent social media post, television actor Rashami Desai expressed her disappointment and frustration over a parody advertisement featuring Bollywood star Ranveer Singh and adult film actor Johnny Sins. Desai, known for her roles in various television serials, took to Instagram to voice her concerns, stating that the ad felt like a “slap” and was a “humiliation” to those working in the television industry.
Desai, who began her career in the regional film industry before transitioning to television, shared her thoughts via Instagram Stories, where she reposted the controversial ad originally shared by a paparazzo account. In her post, she lamented the portrayal of the TV industry in the ad, stating that it made individuals feel smaller and treated them with disrespect.
Expressing her dismay, Desai wrote, “Because we always made feel smaller and treated like one. Actors really wanna work on big screen too, this is exactly how we get treated.” She emphasized the hard work put in by television actors and highlighted the disparity between the treatment of TV and film actors. Desai emphasized that while television actors showcase culture and love to their audience, they often face challenges and stereotypes.
Desai concluded her message by apologizing for potentially overreacting but reiterated her disappointment, stating, “May be I’m overreacting but we show culture and love to our audience. And I’m hurt because I have a respectful journey in TV industry. Hope you’ll will understand the emotion.”
The controversial ad shared by Ranveer Singh features him alongside Johnny Sins in a comical parody of a typical Indian TV drama. Despite its intention to promote men’s sexual healthcare, the ad has stirred debate and criticism, particularly from those within the television industry.
While Ranveer Singh shared the ad on his Instagram with the caption “It’s bold to care,” several TV stars, including Nakuul Mehta and Karan Kundrra, have praised the advertisement for its boldness and creativity.
As the debate surrounding the ad continues to gain momentum on social media, Rashami Desai’s remarks shed light on the underlying issues of representation and respect within the entertainment industry, particularly for those working in television.
