Ranveer Allahbadia Apologises, Vows to Be Mindful of Words After ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy

Popular YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, along with other content creators, has apologised and pledged to be more cautious with their words after facing backlash over controversial remarks made on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent (IGL).

Content Creators Appear Before NCW

The controversy erupted over an episode of India’s Got Latent, where Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks on parents and sex, along with statements by fellow content creator Apoorva Mukhija aka ‘The Rebel Kid’, sparked outrage. Other comedians and influencers involved in the show, including Samay Raina, Jaspreet Singh, and Ashish Chanchlani, also came under fire.

On Thursday, the content creators appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) after being summoned over the controversial remarks. Addressing a press briefing on Friday, NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said that the language used in the show was “absolutely indecent” and unacceptable to both society and the Commission.

Creators Express Regret, Pledge to Be Mindful

During the hearing, the content creators expressed regret and apologised for their words. “They also said that they should not have used such words and that they made a mistake… They said they would be mindful of their words and ensure they don’t hurt anyone,” Rahatkar stated.

She further added that the creators assured the Commission that this was the first and last time they had made such a mistake. “Ranveer Allahbadia and others said that while they cannot take back what was said, they will try to be more mindful in the future and speak with respect towards women,” she noted.

Legal Action and Supreme Court’s Response

Following the backlash, multiple FIRs were lodged against Ranveer Allahbadia, who is popularly known as BeerBiceps, for his controversial comments on the show. However, the Supreme Court granted him interim protection from arrest, though it strongly condemned his remarks. The court called his statements “vulgar”, accused him of having a “dirty mind”, and stated that such content put society to shame.

Who Else Was Involved?

Apart from Ranveer Allahbadia and Apoorva Mukhija, comedians Samay Raina (host of IGL), Jaspreet Singh, and Ashish Chanchlani were among those summoned. The show’s producers, Saurabh Bothra and Tushar Poojari, also appeared before the NCW, along with lawyers representing Jaspreet Singh and Ashish Chanchlani.
