Michael Douglas, the acclaimed American actor and film producer, applauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the realm of film production and finance at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa. His remarks came during discussions about the festival’s significance and PM Modi’s influential role in shaping India’s cinematic landscape.

Expressing admiration for the festival’s global representation, Douglas emphasized the strength and prominence of Indian filmmaking worldwide. “You had 78 foreign countries represented, and it’s only a reflection of the strength of your Indian filming, which is renowned and known around the world,” remarked Douglas, signaling confidence in the trajectory of Indian cinema. “I think you’re in very good hands, I think it’s beginning to,” he added, underscoring the positive direction under Modi’s leadership.

Douglas also praised Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, acknowledging the concerted efforts made in augmenting the financial support and production quality in the film industry. “Under Minister Anurag Thakur as well as Prime Minister Modi, the last few years, we’ve seen more money put into the production and financing of films. It’s been a very successful time,” remarked Douglas during interactions with the media.

Furthermore, the veteran actor highlighted the unifying power of movies, transcending barriers of language, race, religion, and gender. “Movies share the same language; audiences from wherever you are in the world can understand what’s going on. Movies bring us closer together, and I think that’s a very important aspect of it,” Douglas expressed, emphasizing the role of cinema in fostering cultural harmony and understanding.

The IFFI platform provided an opportunity for Douglas to reflect on the significance of movies as a universal medium that bridges diverse cultures. His words echoed the sentiment that film festivals, like IFFI, serve as conduits for cultural exchange and global appreciation of cinematic artistry.
