Bollywood’s glam diva Disha Patani recently attempted to recreate an iconic moment from Hindi cinema, channeling Madhuri Dixit’s legendary Dhak Dhak Karne Laga look. But instead of applause, her sultry tribute received a wave of online backlash—led by Instagram’s notorious fashion critic, Diet Sabya.

Disha made the bold fashion move at the unveiling of the 2nd edition of MAMI Select, donning a shimmery orange saree paired with a full-sleeved embroidered blouse with a sweetheart neckline. Her ensemble, clearly a nod to Madhuri’s unforgettable ’90s look, showcased a low-slung drape and midriff-baring style that mimicked the sensuality of the original. Disha completed the look with minimal accessories, loose waves, and dewy makeup, letting the outfit do most of the talking.

But not everyone was impressed.

Diet Sabya, known for calling out fashion missteps, didn’t hold back. In a blunt takedown shared on Instagram, the account wrote:
“Some tributes are best left in the archives. And in the milieu of Dishafication™, that legendary Dhak Dhak ensemble doesn’t land. Sorry. It’s a NO. Not homage, not nostalgia — just a watered-down rerun (and looks tacky on her?) with none of Madhuri’s original sensuality. Next!”

The term Dishafication™ pointed toward Disha’s signature sensual aesthetic, but Diet Sabya’s critique went deeper—highlighting the challenges of recreating iconic Bollywood fashion moments without diluting their original charm and charisma. In this case, the consensus seemed to be that Madhuri’s aura in the original was simply unmatched.

Social media users were split. While some echoed Diet Sabya’s sharp critique, others came to Disha’s defense.
“I actually really like it on her,” one user commented. Another wrote, “Why she gotta make everything ‘sexual’? Why can’t the recreation be graceful?”
A cheeky comparison also surfaced: “It reminds me of Kim and Kourtney in desi attire. Totally out of place.”
Meanwhile, a few stood firm in support of Disha, saying, “We’d have to disagree on this one w you, Diet ji.”

The online debate underlines a recurring question in fashion: where does one draw the line between homage and overkill? Disha Patani’s daring attempt certainly reignited the conversation around nostalgia in Bollywood fashion—proving once again that recreating a moment as iconic as Madhuri Dixit’s Dhak Dhak requires more than shimmer and sass.
