Jr NTR’s latest action epic, Devara: Part 1, continues its remarkable box office run, eyeing a worldwide gross of ₹400 crore. The film, which also marks the Telugu debuts of Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor, witnessed a significant surge in collections on Wednesday, benefitting from the Gandhi Jayanti holiday. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Devara earned ₹20.5 crore nett on Wednesday alone, marking a 40% jump from Tuesday’s earnings.
The original Telugu version led the way, contributing ₹13 crore, while the Malayalam, Kannada, and Tamil versions added over ₹4 crore combined. The Hindi version also performed well, generating over ₹6 crore, a 50% increase from the previous day. In total, the film has amassed ₹207.85 crore nett in India over six days, with its worldwide gross estimated at ₹370 crore. With the film showing no signs of slowing down, it is projected to close its first week around the ₹220 crore mark.
Strong Start Amid Positive Reception
Devara: Part 1 has captured the audience’s attention with its big-canvas action and intense performances, particularly from Jr NTR. The film’s action-packed sequences and robust fight scenes have helped it sustain momentum through the week, especially in the Telugu-speaking regions. The holiday boost has only further fueled its impressive box office numbers.
Critical Reception
Despite the film’s box office success, Devara: Part 1 received mixed reviews from critics. Film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave the film 2 out of 5 stars, calling it “a mixed bag.” While he appreciated some aspects of the film, including its energetic fight scenes and Jr NTR’s powerful performance, he noted that certain segments fell short of expectations. “The parts that work, few and far between as they are, might serve to whet the appetite of fans of big-canvas action and melodrama… Devara: Part 1 isn’t exactly always adrift at sea… but it does occasionally manage to anchor itself to terra firma,” Chatterjee wrote.
Looking Ahead
Devara: Part 1, originally envisioned as a standalone film, was split into two parts, with the first installment hitting cinemas on September 27. With no major releases in its first week, the film is expected to dominate the box office before facing competition from two Hindi films—Alia Bhatt’s Jigra and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri.
Following Devara, Jr NTR will next be seen alongside Hrithik Roshan in War 2, a highly anticipated Bollywood project.
