Bollywood debutants Rasha Thadani and Aaman Devgan make a mark in ‘Azaad,’ which opened with a modest ₹1.5 crore at the box office.

The much-anticipated film Azaad, marking the Bollywood debut of Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha Thadani and Ajay Devgn’s nephew Aaman Devgan, had a moderate opening on its first day. Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, the film earned approximately ₹1.5 crore net in India on Friday, according to early estimates from Sacnilk.com. The film had an overall Hindi occupancy of 15.02%, indicating a lukewarm response from the audience on its opening day.

Despite the relatively low box office figures, Azaad has become one of the biggest openers for newcomer-led films after the Covid-19 pandemic. The movie delves into the emotional bond between a young stable boy and a horse, exploring themes of loyalty, rebellion, and freedom.

Apart from Rasha and Aaman, the film also stars Ajay Devgn, Diana Penty, Mohit Malik, and Piyush Mishra. Azaad is produced by RSVP Movies and has garnered attention not only for its fresh talent but also for its action sequences featuring the titular horse, Azaad, which has managed to steal the spotlight in several scenes.

Critic Reviews

The film’s first-day performance comes amidst mixed reviews. The Hindustan Times review noted that while the sequences involving the horse Azaad stand out, they are few and far between. The debut performances of Rasha and Aaman were also highlighted, with the review stating that while both are still raw in their acting skills, they managed to leave a mark. Rasha, in particular, was praised for her presence on screen but was advised to work on her emotional scenes. Aaman, meanwhile, was noted for his proficiency in action and dance but was encouraged to refine his acting abilities.

Rasha Thadani Talks About Her Journey

Rasha, in a recent interview with PTI, spoke about her gradual love for acting and how she hopes to carry forward the legacy of her mother, Raveena Tandon, and her maternal grandfather, Ravi Tandon. The 19-year-old actor shared that although she and Aaman did not get along initially, their bond grew over time. “He really grew on me as a person. He is one of the sweetest people I know. Now, he is truly my best friend and someone I can truly depend on for anything because we have grown together,” she said.

The film also marks a significant moment for Rasha, as she embarks on her career in Bollywood, with the hopes of making a lasting impact like her famous mother.

What’s Next for Azaad?

As Azaad continues its box office journey, the film’s future will depend on word-of-mouth and its performance in the coming weeks. With its unique premise and debutants giving their best efforts, it remains to be seen whether the film can gain traction with a wider audience.
