Arjun Kapoor, son of producer Boney Kapoor and late Mona Kapoor, recently made a rare reference to his late stepmother, legendary actor Sridevi, during an interview with Galatta India. Arjun, who seldom speaks about Sridevi, fondly referred to her as “Sridevi ma’am” while reminiscing about his father’s 1993 film, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja.
What Arjun Said
While discussing the grandeur of the film, Arjun shared, “My entire life with my father was being on the Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja set. Even by today’s standards, it is one of the biggest films we ever made. The film cost ₹10 crore in 1992. It had Anil Kapoor, Sridevi ma’am, and Jaggu dada (Jackie Shroff). Anupam Kher was the villain. And there was a pigeon with Anil chachu (uncle) in the film, whose name was Django, and it was my favourite character at the time.”
At the time of the film’s production, Sridevi was dating Boney Kapoor, who was still married to Arjun’s mother, Mona Kapoor. Boney divorced Mona in 1996 and married Sridevi the same year when Arjun was 10 years old.
Family Dynamics and Loss
Boney and Sridevi went on to have two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, who are now actors. Despite the complex family dynamics, Arjun stood by his father when Sridevi tragically passed away in 2018 due to accidental drowning.
After Sridevi’s passing, Arjun shared how he felt protective of his stepsisters, Janhvi and Khushi, and how the tragedy brought him and his sister Anshula Kapoor closer to them. Arjun’s mother, Mona Kapoor, passed away from cancer in 2012, just days before Arjun made his acting debut in Ishaqzaade. Coincidentally, Sridevi passed away months before the release of Janhvi’s debut film, Dhadak.
Upcoming Projects
Arjun Kapoor will next be seen in Mere Husband Ki Biwi, a romantic comedy directed by Mudassar Aziz. The film, co-starring Bhumi Pednekar and Rakul Preet Singh, is scheduled for release on February 21.
