Aishwarya Rai Reflects on Intimate Scenes and Kissing on Screen in Candid 2016 Interview

In a revealing 2016 interview with Filmfare, Aishwarya Rai discussed her approach to intimate scenes on screen, shedding light on why she often chooses to avoid them. The conversation highlighted her views on portraying intimacy and her decision to steer clear of explicit scenes in her film roles.

During the interview, Aishwarya, who was promoting her film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil at the time, reflected on her career choices and her philosophy regarding intimate scenes. Describing herself as a “vocal and intelligent actor,” she emphasized her preference for avoiding predictable roles. She stated, “I am a liberated actor, but it doesn’t mean shedding clothes or inhibitions.”

Aishwarya recounted her experiences with intimate scenes, sharing her decision to exclude a kiss from the script of Bride And Prejudice. She noted that she suggested avoiding the kiss to director Gurinder Chadha, explaining that it was not crucial to the story and could be omitted without impacting the film. Similarly, in Shabd, although there was no kiss, the film portrayed intimacy in a manner that respected her boundaries. She commented, “I was okay with projecting intimacy without contact. Because I knew how much a kiss with me would be discussed.”

The actress also touched upon her much-discussed kissing scene with Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2 (2006). Aishwarya noted that by the time of this film, a kiss had become a more familiar and acceptable part of cinema. She explained, “With the changing times, you consider what could be shocking or not with a sense of responsibility.” The scene in Dhoom 2 was carefully crafted to include dialogue, avoiding the typical crescendo music often associated with intimate moments in films.

In recent news, Aishwarya Rai made headlines for her regal appearance at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding festivities in Mumbai. She attended the event with her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan, while her husband Abhishek Bachchan joined the celebrations with the Bachchan family.
