Zareen Khan Reflects on Katrina Kaif Comparisons: “It Was Huge But It All Backfired”

In a recent podcast with Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa, actress Zareen Khan opened up about the challenges she faced following her career debut and the impact of being compared to Katrina Kaif.

Zareen Khan, who made her Bollywood debut opposite Salman Khan in the 2010 film Veer, gained significant attention for her resemblance to Katrina Kaif. While the comparison initially seemed flattering, Khan revealed that it soon turned into a career obstacle. Speaking candidly on the podcast, Khan shared her feelings about the comparisons and the resulting backlash.

“Life after Veer was very bad for me. I received a lot of criticism,” Khan recounted. She admitted that while she was initially pleased to be compared to Kaif, the situation quickly deteriorated. “Initially, I felt very happy that I was being compared to Katrina Kaif, but within the industry, things kept getting worse. For me, who used to be overweight, being compared to Katrina was huge, but it all backfired.”

Khan elaborated on her struggles, describing how the comparison affected her personal and professional life. “I felt like a lost child in the industry, plus there was hesitation. I didn’t know most people here, but they started to feel I was arrogant because Salman Khan launched me.”

The actress also recalled a period of intense scrutiny and criticism. “There was a time I was even scared to step out of my house because people would comment on my clothes. That comparison went in a very negative way. I was given so many names that at one point, I wanted to just sit at home. They all saw me as a failure.”

Despite these challenges, Khan continued to work in Bollywood and beyond. She starred in films such as Housefull 2, Hate Story 3, Aksar 2, and the horror film 1921. Additionally, she appeared in a song in Salman Khan’s 2011 film Ready and has featured in Punjabi films like Jatt James Bond and Daaka.

Khan’s reflections on her career highlight the often unseen pressures and challenges faced by actors in the industry, especially when comparisons to established stars can sometimes overshadow their own individual achievements.
