Vijay’s latest release, ‘Leo,’ has taken the global box office by storm, surpassing the highly-anticipated ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ starring Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio.
According to a recent report by Variety, ‘Leo,’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has achieved a worldwide cumulative box office collection of $48.5 million within just four days of its release. In contrast, Martin Scorsese’s epic drama ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro, stands slightly behind at $44 million.
‘Leo’ is part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which also includes ‘Kaithi’ (2019) and ‘Vikram’ (2022). The film follows Vijay’s character as he confronts his violent past. The star-studded cast includes Trisha Krishnan, Sanjay Dutt, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, and Mansoor Ali Khan, among others. While ‘Leo’ received mixed reviews from both critics and audiences, it has evidently found favor at the global box office.
At the Indian domestic box office, ‘Leo’ had an impressive four-day run, amassing ₹179.85 crore, as reported by Sacnilk. The film earned ₹39.80 crore across its Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi versions on its first Saturday, with ₹64 crore and ₹35 crore on the first and second days, respectively.
In contrast, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ is a historical crime drama based on the series of murders against the Osage nation in the early 1920s. The film boasts a significant budget of over $200 million and is adapted from the award-winning book “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” by David Grann.
‘Leo’s remarkable success at the global box office highlights the growing international appeal of Indian cinema and Vijay’s star power.
