Tamil superstar and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay found himself at the center of a heated online discussion after an unexpected incident at the Madurai airport. The actor, returning from a film shoot in Kodaikanal, was met by an enthusiastic crowd of fans. However, the atmosphere turned tense when one fan breached the security cordon to approach Vijay — prompting one of his bodyguards to briefly draw a firearm.
Video Sparks Outrage and Debate
Videos circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) show Vijay stepping out of his vehicle to a sea of cheering fans. One fan, reportedly carrying a shawl, rushed past the barricade in an attempt to reach the actor. In response, the actor’s security team restrained the individual, and during the chaos, one of the guards was seen pointing a gun, albeit briefly, at the fan.
Vijay, unfazed by the disruption, continued walking toward the terminal, seemingly unaware of the incident behind him.
Fan Responds: ‘They Did Nothing Wrong’
The fan in question later told News18, “I didn’t know the gun was there; the bouncers did it for security reasons. I don’t think they did anything wrong.”
Mixed Reactions Online
The video has triggered mixed reactions online. While some users criticized the severity of the response, calling it “scary” and “excessive,” others came to Vijay’s defense, stating that the incident was misinterpreted.
One user wrote, “This is scary. Actor Vijay’s bouncers using a pistol against the public in a public place?” Another compared the incident to interactions with other Tamil stars like Rajinikanth and Ajith, noting their perceived humility.
However, fans of Vijay presented a different narrative, slowing down the video and pointing out that the security officer may have been following standard airport protocol. According to them, the bodyguard was merely handing over his firearm to another team member before entering the terminal — a standard requirement in many airports.
One fan tweeted, “Thalapathy Vijay’s security officer was responsibly handing over a firearm to a colleague at the airport when a cadre’s reckless interference caused a brief mishap. No one was targeted.”
No Official Statement Yet
As of now, neither Vijay nor his team has released an official statement regarding the incident. Airport authorities have also not confirmed whether any formal complaint was lodged.
