Ajith Kumar and Trisha Krishnan’s latest film, Vidaamuyarchi, has crossed ₹72.25 crore at the Indian box office within its first week of release. Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, the action thriller, adapted from the 1997 Hollywood film Breakdown, opened to high expectations but received mixed reviews.
Box Office Performance
According to Sacnilk.com, Vidaamuyarchi earned approximately ₹1.25 crore on its eighth day, bringing its total collections to ₹72.25 crore. The film had a strong opening with ₹26 crore on its first day but saw a gradual dip over the weekdays.
Day-wise Collection in India:
- Day 1 (Thursday): ₹26 crore
- Day 2 (Friday): ₹10.25 crore
- Day 3 (Saturday): ₹13.5 crore
- Day 4 (Sunday): ₹12.5 crore
- Day 8 (Thursday): ₹1.25 crore (estimated)
With Vicky Kaushal’s highly anticipated Chhaava releasing this Friday, Vidaamuyarchi is expected to face stiff competition in its second week. It remains to be seen how well the film holds up against the new releases.
About Vidaamuyarchi
The film follows a gripping story where a man embarks on a high-stakes mission to rescue his wife from a dangerous group in Azerbaijan. Unlike Ajith Kumar’s usual mass-entertainer roles, Vidaamuyarchi presents him as an ordinary man fighting extraordinary circumstances.
Originally slated for a Pongal 2024 release, the film faced delays before finally hitting theaters. Meanwhile, Ajith Kumar has since shifted focus to his racing career after wrapping up the film’s shoot.
Critical Reception
Vidaamuyarchi received a mix of praise and criticism. The Hindustan Times review noted, “At the outset, Vidaamuyarchi is not a star-driven film. It doesn’t involve the usual mass-hero theatrics we associate with Ajith Kumar. Instead, it tells the story of an ordinary man who loves his wife and will go to any lengths to save her.“
While some fans have lauded the film’s unique approach, others felt it lacked the high-energy sequences typically expected from Ajith Kumar’s films.
