Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta's "Veer-Zaara" Surpasses ₹100 Crore Worldwide After Re-release

Yash Chopra’s iconic 2004 romantic drama “Veer-Zaara” has made a significant impact once again, crossing the ₹100 crore mark at the worldwide box office following its re-release in cinemas. The film, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta in leading roles, has continued to captivate audiences two decades after its original release.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh reported the box office performance of the re-released film. “Veer-Zaara” earned ₹20 lakh on its first day back in theaters (September 13), followed by ₹32 lakh on Saturday and ₹38 lakh on Sunday. The collection gradually declined throughout the week, with earnings of ₹20 lakh on Monday, ₹18 lakh on Tuesday, ₹15 lakh on Wednesday, and ₹14 lakh on Thursday. This brought its total domestic collection from the re-release to ₹1.57 crore. Additionally, the film garnered ₹0.23 crore from international markets during this period, resulting in a total re-release collection of ₹1.80 crore. Earlier this year, during its initial re-release in February, the film had earned ₹0.30 crore.

Originally, “Veer-Zaara” had a remarkable box office performance, collecting ₹61 crore domestically and ₹37 crore overseas upon its first release, totaling ₹98 crore. Over the years, it has accumulated an additional ₹2.50 crore, bringing the film’s overall earnings to ₹102.60 crore worldwide after accounting for both re-release runs.

The film’s popularity is expected to rise further, especially with National Cinema Day offering tickets for just ₹99 on September 20, likely encouraging more viewers to experience this timeless love story.

“Veer-Zaara,” produced by Yash Raj Films, marked the third collaboration between Yash Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan, following “Darr” (1991) and “Dil To Pagal Hai” (1997). Alongside Khan and Zinta, the film features a stellar cast including Rani Mukerji, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani, Kirron Kher, Anupam Kher, and Divya Dutta.

The narrative centers around an Indian soldier and a Pakistani woman, whose love story unfolds against the backdrop of cross-border tensions. After facing separation due to false accusations against the soldier, the film beautifully portrays themes of love, sacrifice, and the quest for justice, making it a cherished classic in Indian cinema.
