In a world that often forgets its elders, Samudratheeram Secular Old Age Home, located in Kalluvathukkal, Kollam, stands as a shining example of compassion and human service. Founded by Mr. Ruval Sing M, this model old age home provides safety, shelter, and affection to those who have been left alone during the final years of their lives.
The home began humbly on November 1, 2020 (Kerala Piravi Day) with just two elderly residents. Today, it has blossomed into a vibrant family of 35 “parents,” each cared for with warmth and respect. The guiding principle here is simple yet profound:
“Let’s treat the elderly not with medicine, but with love and mind.”
More Than a Home — A Family
Over the past three years, Samudratheeram has received more than 500 applications from across Kerala. After careful evaluation, 65 individuals were given shelter, and through counseling, legal action, and family mediation, 30 of them were successfully reunited with their families.
Even after reuniting, the team continues to follow up twice every month, ensuring these elderly individuals live happily and receive continuous emotional and social support.

The Visionary Behind It All — Ruval Sing M
Every noble institution begins with a dream, and Samudratheeram is the lifelong dream of Mr. Ruval Sing M — a man who rose from hardship to humanity.
Born in Kalluvathukkal, Ruval’s early life was filled with struggles. His father abandoned the family when he was an infant, and his mother, Sudha, toiled in a cashew factory and as a stone worker to raise her children. Seeing her pain, young Ruval joined her in breaking stones while still in sixth grade.
Tragedy struck before his SSLC exams when his mother was bitten by a snake. He paused his education for months to care for her in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Afterward, he worked various jobs — as a water boy, vehicle washer, construction laborer, and auto driver — to support the family.
Later, he spent 2.5 years in Gujarat, learning construction techniques. Upon returning home, he started his own company, Samudra Construction, which has now completed over 650 houses, schools, and commercial buildings.
Despite his business success, Ruval Sing never forgot his roots or the value of compassion. He now dedicates a major share of his earnings to philanthropy and social welfare. Together with his wife Rohini, their children Senagal and Samudra, and his beloved mother, Ruval lives with the Samudratheeram family — a true symbol of unity and love.
Samudra Charitable Trust — A Foundation of Service
Established in 2017, the Samudra Charitable Trust became the backbone of all social initiatives led by Ruval Sing. Remarkably, during its early years (2017–2020), the Trust carried out its charitable projects without accepting any external donations.
Key Initiatives Include:
Free Eye Treatment Camps: Conducted monthly with Thirunelveli Aravind Eye Hospital, benefiting over 10,000 people. This program honors Ruval’s grandmother, who lost her eyesight after caring for the family.
Free Ambulance Service: A tribute to his mother’s snake-bite incident, ensuring no one else suffers for lack of transport in emergencies.
Cancer Treatment Support: Providing financial and emotional aid to cancer patients.
Clothes Distribution: Free clothing drives in Parippally Medical College and for head-load workers and auto drivers — a nod to Ruval’s humble beginnings.
Educational Aid: Free study materials and financial assistance to underprivileged students.
