John Abraham's The Diplomat Sees Drop in Box Office Collections on Day 4

John Abraham’s latest film, The Diplomat, experienced a dip at the box office on its first Monday. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected ₹1.5 crore in the domestic market on Day 4, bringing its total earnings to ₹14.8 crore. The Hindi-language political thriller, directed by Shivam Nair, recorded an overall 8.35% occupancy on March 17.

Weekend Performance and Box Office Trends

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the film’s opening weekend box office figures, revealing that The Diplomat had a slow start. It earned ₹4.03 crore on Friday, followed by ₹4.68 crore on Saturday, and ₹4.74 crore on Sunday, bringing the weekend total to ₹13.45 crore. Adarsh noted that while the film received positive word of mouth, it did not see the expected weekend surge in collections. However, he pointed out that the movie’s performance in urban centers showed promise.

“With no major releases until Sikandar on Eid, The Diplomat has an opportunity to attract more viewers in the coming days,” Adarsh stated.

Plot and Cast

Set against the backdrop of India-Pakistan relations, The Diplomat follows the gripping story of JP Singh, the Deputy High Commissioner of India, played by John Abraham. The film revolves around his high-stakes mission to rescue Uzma Ahmed (Sadia Khateeb) from Pakistan, highlighting themes of diplomacy, resilience, and personal conflict. The film also features Kumud Mishra, Sharib Hashmi, Revathy, and Ashwath Bhatt in pivotal roles.

Critical Reception

Film critic Saibal Chatterjee rated The Diplomat 3 out of 5 stars, describing it as having “all the ingredients of a conventional Bollywood drama.” While the film has been praised for its subject matter and John Abraham’s performance, its box office numbers remain modest.

Production and Release

The Diplomat has been produced under multiple banners, including T-Series Films, JA Entertainment, Wakaoo Films, Seeta Films, and Fortune Pictures. The film is backed by producers Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, John Abraham, Vipul D Shah, Ashwin Varde, Rajesh Bahl, Samir Dixit, Jatish Varma, and Rakesh Dang. It was released in theatres on March 14.
