Hansal Mehta’s investigative thriller The Buckingham Murders, starring Kareena Kapoor, had a modest start at the box office, earning ₹5.3 crore during its opening weekend. Despite being the only major Bollywood release of the past week, the film has been gradually picking up momentum in its domestic run.
Opening Weekend Collection
According to reports by Sacnilk, The Buckingham Murders collected ₹1.15 crore on its opening day (Friday), followed by ₹1.95 crore on Saturday, and concluded the weekend with ₹2.20 crore on Sunday. While the figures are lower compared to Kareena Kapoor’s earlier release The Crew, the film’s unique genre and intense narrative are attracting audiences.
The movie was released in two language versions: the original Hinglish version (with 80% English and 20% Hindi dialogues) and a Hindi-dubbed version. The Hindi version performed significantly better, earning ₹0.7 crore and ₹1.2 crore on Friday and Saturday, respectively, compared to the Hinglish version’s ₹0.45 crore and ₹0.75 crore for the same days. Sunday’s language-wise earnings are yet to be confirmed.
Plot and Cast
The Buckingham Murders follows the story of Sergeant Jasmeet ‘Jass’ Bhamra (Kareena Kapoor), who is grappling with the loss of her son, Ekam. She is assigned the case of a missing boy named Ishpreet, whose age eerily mirrors that of her deceased child. Alongside Kareena, the film features Ash Tandon, celebrity chef Ranveer Brar, and British actor Keith Allen.
Kareena’s performance has been widely appreciated, with many lauding her portrayal of Jass as raw and emotionally charged. Critics have noted that she completely transforms into the character, making audiences forget her previous roles in films like Jab We Met and The Crew.
Kareena Kapoor’s Debut as a Producer
The Buckingham Murders also marks Kareena Kapoor’s debut as a producer. Teaming up with producer Ekta Kapoor once again, the film showcases a different side of Kareena’s acting abilities, highlighting her ability to balance vulnerability and strength.
Upcoming Projects
Following The Buckingham Murders, Kareena will next appear in Rohit Shetty’s highly anticipated cop drama Singham Again, set to release during Diwali 2024. With Singham Again, she returns to the mainstream action genre, playing a role in Shetty’s popular police universe alongside Ajay Devgn.
While The Buckingham Murders may not have started with blockbuster numbers, it is slowly gaining traction at the box office, driven by positive word-of-mouth and Kareena Kapoor’s standout performance.
