Actor Tamannaah Bhatia, known for her roles in films like ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Lust Stories 2’, has been summoned by the Maharashtra cyber cell in connection with an illegal IPL streaming case. This development comes as part of an ongoing investigation into the promotion of the FairPlay betting app and its connection to the Mahadev online gaming and betting application.
The summons issued to Tamannaah Bhatia are based on allegations that she promoted the viewing of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches on the FairPlay betting app. The app is known for offering a wide range of sports and entertainment gambling options, with cricket being the most popular sport followed by football and tennis.
The controversy surrounding the FairPlay app escalated when it was reported that certain IPL matches were streamed illegally on the platform. This led to a complaint by a broadcaster and subsequent investigations by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell.
Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned as a witness and has been asked to appear before the cyber cell next week to provide her statement regarding the promotion of IPL matches on the FairPlay app.
The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has already recorded statements from singer Badshah and the managers of actors Sanjay Dutt and Jacqueline Fernandez in relation to this case. The FairPlay betting app, a subsidiary of the Mahadev online gaming app, has been under scrutiny for its involvement in illegal betting activities across various live games including cricket, poker, badminton, tennis, football card games, and chance games.
Last year, the Mahadev online betting app gained attention when actors Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, who had appeared in advertisements for the app, were summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning. The app’s operators, Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, based in Dubai, have faced scrutiny for their methods of attracting new customers through various online channels and social media platforms.
The ED’s investigation into the Mahadev app-linked money laundering case has revealed alleged involvement of high-ranking politicians and bureaucrats from Chhattisgarh. The projected proceeds of crime in this case are estimated to be around ₹6,000 crore, according to the ED’s findings.
As the legal proceedings unfold and more details emerge from the investigation, the entertainment and betting industries continue to be under scrutiny for their practices related to illegal streaming and gambling activities. Tamannaah Bhatia’s role as a witness in this case highlights the broader implications of celebrity endorsements and promotions in the digital entertainment landscape.
