Sunny Deol, the seasoned Bollywood actor, has recently shed light on the struggles he and his legendary father, Dharmendra, faced in the industry. Despite belonging to a family of superstars, Sunny revealed that big production houses often hesitated to collaborate with them, a reality that eventually led him to venture into film production.
The Reality of Camps in Bollywood
In an interview with SCREEN, Sunny discussed how the industry’s reliance on camps—groups that often favor sycophancy—left little room for outsiders or those unwilling to conform. “The reality of life is that there are camps everywhere. Camps usually go with the people who are part of them and who will do chamchagiri (sycophancy) for one another. Somehow, people who are very upfront… We are Jats, you know. Whatever we do, we are not afraid, we do it. And we are honest,” he said.
Becoming a Producer Out of Necessity
Sunny shared how the lack of support from established production houses in the 1980s and 1990s affected Dharmendra’s career and his own. “A lot of big (production) houses did not work with papa. I also didn’t have any house working with me. But when you are talented, you fight your way through,” he said. Sunny decided to take matters into his own hands by becoming a producer, bringing his vision to life independently.
Sunny Deol’s Upcoming Projects
Following the massive success of Gadar 2, Sunny is gearing up for exciting projects. He will reprise his role in Border 2, a sequel to the iconic war film Border. Directed by JP Dutta, the sequel is being produced by JP Dutta’s daughter Nidhi Dutta and the T-Series banner. The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty.
Sunny will also star in another action-packed project titled Jaat, promising more of the intense performances that fans have come to expect from the actor.
