Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda is facing criticism not from fans or industry insiders—but from his own wife. In a candid interview with Zoom, Sunita Ahuja voiced her frustration over her husband’s prolonged absence from the big screen, calling it a case of “zindagi barbaad” (a wasted life).
Sunita questioned why a legend like Govinda, who ruled the box office through the 90s and early 2000s, has not been working while his contemporaries like Anil Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, and Jackie Shroff continue to stay active and relevant in the industry.
“Why is a legend like you sitting at home?” she said she often asks him. “Actors of your age are doing so much work… Why don’t you work?”
Govinda, once one of Hindi cinema’s most bankable stars known for his impeccable comic timing and dance moves, has not appeared in a significant film since 2019’s Rangeela Raja, which was a commercial failure. Earlier attempts at a comeback, including roles in Raavan and Kill Dil, failed to reignite his career.
Sunita did not hold back as she partly blamed Govinda’s inner circle for enabling his professional inertia. “His friends are not telling him that the audience isn’t watching 90s-style films anymore,” she said, implying that his associates may be more interested in financial gain than his career revival. “Uski zindagi barbaad kyu kar rahe ho do kaudi ke paison ke lie? (Why are you ruining his life for some money?) Tell him to lose weight or look handsome,” she added.
The strong remarks from Sunita Ahuja have sparked conversations online about Govinda’s potential comeback and the pressures veteran actors face in adapting to the ever-evolving film industry.
As stars like Anil Kapoor continue to take on diverse roles across films and streaming platforms, and Suniel Shetty and Jackie Shroff remain in the public eye, the question remains—will Govinda make a return, or will he continue to remain out of the limelight?
