In a recent exclusive interview, renowned singer Sunidhi Chauhan addressed a viral video showing a bottle being hurled towards the stage during her performance at Shri Guru Ram Rai University’s annual fest Zenith 2024 in Dehradun. Contrary to initial reports suggesting an attack, Chauhan clarified that the incident was not intentional and that she wasn’t harmed.
Chauhan expressed her surprise at the video going viral, stating, “I had no idea that the video has gone viral. It’s the first time something like this has happened with me and I don’t think it was done intentionally.” She further explained that during her second last song, the enthusiastic crowd was enjoying the show and started hurling bottles in the air. One bottle, containing water, accidentally fell onto the stage.
The singer recounted her response to the incident, saying, “When I said, ‘Yeh kya ho raha hai? Show ruk jayega,’ so they responded sweetly, ‘No, please don’t’. The kids were just having fun.” Fortunately, the bottle hit her microphone with force but did not cause any harm. Chauhan acknowledged that had the microphone been closer to her mouth, the outcome might have been different.
While emphasizing that the incident was not deliberate, Chauhan condemned past instances where performers were intentionally targeted by misbehaving audiences. She referenced incidents involving other artists like Padma Shri Kailash Kher and Padma Shri Sonu Nigam, highlighting the seriousness of such behavior.
Kailash Kher was previously attacked during a concert in Karnataka when a bottle was thrown at him, and Sonu Nigam faced an altercation at a Mumbai concert over a selfie. Reflecting on these incidents, Chauhan stressed the need to respect performers and avoid any form of misconduct during live shows.
The entertainment industry often witnesses such incidents where artists face challenges from unruly audience behavior. However, Chauhan’s positive outlook on the Dehradun incident and her understanding of the fans’ enthusiasm demonstrate a balanced perspective on handling such situations.
