West Bengal is known for its lively political scene, with big rallies and heated debates often taking center stage. However, much of the important political work happens quietly, away from the public eye. Political organizations depend on grassroots workers who build networks, organize volunteers, and strengthen local party structures. One of the young leaders making a mark in this area is Subham Prakash Singh, who has been helping grow the Bharatiya Janata Party’s youth base in Bardhaman and Durgapur.
Subham Prakash Singh is part of a new generation of young people who mix academic knowledge of politics with real-world organizing experience. Growing up in West Bengal, he became interested in governance and national politics early on. This passion led him to study political science, earning a Bachelor’s degree from West Bengal State University and a Master’s from Indira Gandhi National Open University.
Although his studies gave him a strong grasp of political theory, Subham felt that real democracy could only be understood by working at the grassroots level. Driven by this idea, he started getting involved in community projects and youth activities in Durgapur and nearby areas.
Before entering active political organizational work, Subham also explored entrepreneurship and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Knots Footwear. His experience in business exposed him to leadership challenges such as team management, operational planning, and long-term strategy. These experiences later influenced the way he approached political organization—emphasizing discipline, structure, and systematic coordination.
Between 2020 and 2023, Subham became even more active at the grassroots level. He worked closely with local volunteers and community groups to get more young people involved in social and civic projects. He spent much of this time connecting with young people who wanted to help their communities but didn’t have clear ways to get started.
One of his first projects during this time was starting Hindu Yuva Sena, a youth group that brought together over a hundred members for social outreach, cultural events, and community service. The goal was to build unity among young people and encourage them to get more involved in local issues.
As Subham got more involved in grassroots work, he took on formal roles in youth political groups. He is now a District Member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He also helps organize Namo Yuva Warriors as Co-Convenor for Bardhaman Zilla and Assembly In-Charge for Durgapur Paschim and Purba.
In these roles, his responsibilities revolve around strengthening youth participation and building organizational capacity at the local level. His work includes coordinating youth volunteers, assisting with booth-level political organization, managing outreach initiatives, and supporting communication between grassroots workers and district leadership.
Subham has also contributed to district-level political campaigns by helping organize youth mobilization drives, coordinating public meetings, and supporting digital outreach efforts aimed at engaging younger audiences. Much of this work takes place behind the scenes, focusing on strengthening the organizational framework that supports broader political activity.
Besides political organizing, Subham stays active in efforts to boost cultural and social involvement in local communities. Through outreach and programs like Mandir Sashaktikaran Abhiyan, he works with temple groups and local organizations to encourage cultural awareness and community participation.
He has also engaged with different social groups across Bardhaman district, including the Matua community, through outreach and voter awareness initiatives. These interactions have helped him maintain close connections with the communities he works with and understand their concerns at the grassroots level.
People who follow youth politics in the area say Subham’s leadership mixes business-like discipline with grassroots activism. Instead of just seeking attention, he works on building strong organizations that can keep young people involved in politics for the long term.
His way of working shows a bigger change in youth politics. New leaders are now focusing not just on elections, but also on creating ways for young people to get involved in civic life and become more socially aware.
As politics in West Bengal keeps changing, youth leaders and grassroots organizers are playing a bigger role. By coordinating volunteers, engaging with communities, and mobilizing young people, Subham Prakash Singh is part of a new generation quietly building stronger organizations and encouraging more people to take part in democracy.Instagram & Facebook
