Stree 2 Box Office Collection Day 5: Shraddha Kapoor's Film Soars Past Monday Test, Sets New Records

Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s latest horror-comedy, Stree 2, has taken the box office by storm, setting new benchmarks for the Hindi film industry in 2024. Released on August 15, the film has garnered an impressive ₹228 crore in just five days, making it the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year so far.

Stree 2 not only surpassed the lifetime collections of other major releases like Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter and the Hindi version of Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan’s Kalki 2898 AD, but it also recorded the biggest opening weekend of the year with its extended holiday weekend.

Impressive Monday Figures

According to Sacnilk, Stree 2 continued its winning streak on Monday, collecting ₹37 crore and pushing its total box office collection to ₹228.45 crore. The film’s strong performance on a non-holiday Monday is a testament to its widespread popularity and positive word-of-mouth.

Comparisons with Other Blockbusters

In comparison, Fighter earned ₹115.30 crore in its opening weekend and wrapped up its box office journey with a lifetime collection of ₹199.45 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama. Meanwhile, the Hindi version of Kalki 2898 AD earned ₹112.15 crore during its opening weekend and concluded with a lifetime collection of ₹294.25 crore in the Hindi market. Stree 2 has not only surpassed these films’ opening weekend collections but is also well on its way to surpassing their lifetime earnings.

Benefitting from Holiday Releases

Stree 2 benefitted significantly from two major holidays — Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan. The film earned ₹76.5 crore on Independence Day alone, followed by ₹37 crore on Raksha Bandhan, with high occupancy rates reported in key cities like Delhi-NCR, Lucknow, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur.

The Legacy of Stree

A sequel to the 2018 hit Stree, which had a lifetime collection of ₹129.90 crore, Stree 2 reunites the original cast, including Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana. The new installment has clearly struck a chord with audiences, continuing the legacy of its predecessor while setting new records in the process.

With its stellar box office performance, Stree 2 is set to become one of the most successful films of 2024, marking yet another milestone for Bollywood.
