South Korean Actor Kim Sae-ron Dies by Suicide at 24, Confirms Police

South Korean actor Kim Sae-ron, known for her roles in A Brand New Life and The Man From Nowhere, has died by suicide at the age of 24. The Seoul police confirmed her death on Monday, stating that she was found dead in her home on Sunday.

Police Confirm Suicide, Urge Public to Avoid Speculation

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul Seongdong Police Station received a report around 5 PM KST on Sunday. A friend, who had planned to meet Sae-ron, discovered her unresponsive and alerted authorities.

“We believe she made an extreme choice and plan to handle it as a suicide,” a police official told Yonhap. Authorities found no evidence of foul play, including signs of forced entry. A police spokesperson urged the public to refrain from speculation, stating, “We kindly ask for consideration of the deceased and the bereaved family.”

A Rising Star’s Journey in the Entertainment Industry

Born in 2000 in Seoul, Kim Sae-ron began her acting career as a child star and quickly gained recognition. She became one of the youngest South Korean actors to be invited to the Cannes Film Festival for her role in A Brand New Life.

Her career included critically acclaimed performances in The Man From Nowhere (2010), The Neighbor (2012), A Girl at My Door (2014), Snowy Road (2015), and The Villagers (2018). She also appeared in popular TV series like Mirror of the Witch (2016) and Netflix’s Bloodhounds (2023). Throughout her career, she won multiple awards for her performances in films and dramas.

Controversy and Struggles Following DUI Case

In 2022, Kim Sae-ron was involved in a DUI incident where she crashed into a guardrail and a transformer, causing a power outage for 57 stores for nearly three hours. She was found guilty and fined 20 million won. Following the incident, she faced public backlash and struggled to secure new acting roles.

Kim Sae-ron’s sudden passing has left fans and the entertainment industry in shock. Many have taken to social media to express their condolences and remember her talent and contributions to cinema.
