Actress Sonam Kapoor recently shared insights into her postpartum journey, discussing weight gain, self-acceptance, and gradual transformation following the birth of her son, Vayu, in 2022. Speaking on an episode of Fashionably Pernia’s The Style Icon podcast, Kapoor revealed her initial struggles with postpartum weight gain, emphasizing the challenges faced by new mothers.
“I gained 32 kilos. Honestly, initially, I was traumatised. You are so obsessed with your baby, you are really not thinking about working out, eating right. It took me a year and a half. I took it really slow, you have to be slow because you have to adjust to the new you,” Kapoor shared, highlighting the physical and emotional changes experienced during the postpartum period.
Acknowledging the transformative impact of motherhood on her life, Kapoor emphasized the importance of self-acceptance and embracing changes. “Everything in your life changes. Your relationship with yourself changes, with your husband, it changes, everything changes. You are never going to feel the same about your body. I have always accepted myself for who I am, and I was like, I need to accept this version of myself,” she added.
In January this year, Kapoor shared her progress in postpartum weight loss on Instagram, celebrating a significant milestone. “What a wow…20 kgs down…6 more to go,” she wrote, highlighting her commitment to a gradual and sustainable transformation journey without resorting to crash diets or intense workouts.
Reflecting on her journey, Kapoor expressed gratitude for her body’s resilience and the experience of being a woman. “It’s taken me 16 months to feel like myself again. Slowly steadily without any crash diets and crazy workouts just consistent self-care and baby care. I’m not there yet but almost where I want to be.. still very very grateful for my body and how incredible it has been. Being a woman is a wondrous thing,” Kapoor shared in an earlier post.
Beyond her personal life, Kapoor, who married entrepreneur Anand Ahuja in 2018, is renowned for her versatile performances in Hindi films like “Raanjhanaa,” “Neerja,” “Veere Di Wedding,” “Aisha,” “Pad Man,” “Sanju,” “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo,” and “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.” Her dedication to both her career and personal well-being continues to inspire fans and followers alike.
