Sonakshi Sinha Opens Up About Marriage to Zaheer Iqbal, Dismisses Conversion Rumours

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has finally addressed speculation surrounding her marriage to actor Zaheer Iqbal, including rumours about religious conversion. In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Sonakshi clarified that there was never any pressure from Zaheer’s family for her to convert to Islam.

Sonakshi and Zaheer tied the knot on June 23 last year, but their wedding was met with public scrutiny. The absence of her brothers, Luv and Kussh Sinha, along with comments from her father, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, led to speculation about the Sinha family’s support for the union. While Sonakshi confirmed that her father was as supportive as possible, she chose not to comment on her brothers’ absence.

Speaking about her relationship with Zaheer, Sonakshi emphasized that religion was never a factor in their decision to get married. “Zaheer and I weren’t really paying attention to religion. We are two people who love each other and want to get married. He didn’t enforce his religion on me, and I am not enforcing my religion on him. This wasn’t even a discussion,” she said.

The actress also highlighted how the couple respects and embraces each other’s traditions. “They follow certain traditions at their house, and I follow certain traditions at my house. He participates in my Diwali pooja, and I participate in his rituals. And that’s all that matters,” she shared.

Sonakshi further elaborated on their decision to marry under the Special Marriage Act, which allowed them to retain their respective religions. “Under the circumstances, the best way to get married was the Special Marriage Act, where I, as a Hindu woman, do not need to change my religion, and he, as a Muslim man, can remain a Muslim. It’s as simple as that. I was never asked, ‘Are you going to convert?’ We love each other, and we’re going to get married.”

Addressing the online criticism and negativity surrounding their wedding, Sonakshi revealed that she and Zaheer muted their Instagram comments before the ceremony to avoid unnecessary stress. “On my big day, mujhe yeh bakwas dekhni hi nahi hai (I didn’t want to see this nonsense),” she stated.
