Shaitaan Hits Double Digits on Day 1: Ajay Devgn and Jyothika's Horror Thriller Garners ₹14.2 Crore

Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan’s latest venture, “Shaitaan,” has made a remarkable entry into the box office, securing a promising start on its opening day. The horror thriller, directed by Vikas Bahl, has managed to pull in ₹14.2 crore domestically on its first day of release, as reported by Sacnilk. The film, which hit the screens on March 8, witnessed a substantial 25.70 percent Hindi occupancy, signaling a strong initial response from audiences.

“Shaitaan” not only boasts powerhouse performances from Devgn and Madhavan but also features Jyothika, Janki Bodiwala, and Anngad Raaj in pivotal roles. Produced jointly by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak, the film is a Hindi remake of the Gujarati hit “Vash,” which premiered last year in February.

Of particular note is the reunion of R Madhavan and Jyothika on-screen after more than two decades. The duo previously shared the screen in the 2001 Tamil film “Dumm Dumm Dumm.” Reflecting on their collaboration, Jyothika expressed her admiration for Madhavan’s growth as an actor over the years. She commented, “Working with him after all these years made me realize how much the two of us have grown as actors.” Madhavan echoed her sentiments, highlighting the evolution of their roles from romantic leads to character-driven performances in “Shaitaan.”

Tamil superstar Suriya, Jyothika’s husband, took to social media to share his pride and support for her latest endeavor. He posted a heartfelt message alongside a picture of himself standing next to the film’s poster, emphasizing his admiration for her talent and dedication.

However, not all reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Film critic Saibal Chatterjee awarded “Shaitaan” 1.5 stars out of 5, criticizing the execution of its horror elements as pedestrian and lacking the intended fear factor.
