"Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dunki' Grosses ₹300 Crore Worldwide in Just a Week"

Shah Rukh Khan’s latest venture, “Dunki,” has stormed the box office, surpassing the ₹300 crore mark globally within a mere seven days since its release on December 21. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani and featuring Taapsee Pannu alongside Khan, the film has garnered significant attention both domestically and internationally.

The announcement of “Dunki” crossing the ₹300 crore milestone was shared on Red Chillies Entertainment’s official social media handle, X (formerly Twitter). The production house posted a celebratory poster showcasing the film’s outstanding achievement with a message expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support from audiences worldwide.

Presented by JIO Studios, Red Chillies Entertainment, and Rajkumar Hirani Films, “Dunki” entered the cinema space on December 21, encountering a box office clash with Prabhas-starrer “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire.” The film revolves around the journey of four friends—Manu, Sukhi, Buggu, and Balli—who aspire to relocate to London for a better life, depicting their challenging yet transformative quest via an illegal immigration method known as ‘donkey flight.’

The star-studded cast includes Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover, complementing Khan and Pannu in this comedy-drama that touches on themes of friendships, borders, nostalgia, and love. Co-scripted by Rajkumar Hirani alongside Abhijaat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon, “Dunki” marks Shah Rukh Khan’s third and final release of 2023, following the action-packed successes of “Pathaan” and “Jawan.”

Although “Dunki” received a mixed response from critics and audiences, it has garnered attention for its heartfelt portrayal of human connections and the pursuit of dreams. Notably, the film was recently honored with a screening at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Expressing his sentiments about the film, Shah Rukh Khan remarked during an event in Dubai that “Dunki” holds a special place in his heart, reflecting a personal journey akin to his self-identification within the storyline. Encouraging viewers to experience the film, he emphasized its ability to resonate with diverse audiences, promising moments of laughter and emotional connections.

“Dunki” emerges as a box office powerhouse, setting records and drawing attention for its unique narrative and stellar performances, marking Shah Rukh Khan’s cinematic legacy in 2023.
