Shah Rukh Khan’s latest cinematic venture, “Dunki,” appears to be experiencing a gradual slowdown at the box office as it strides into its third week since its release on December 21. Helmed by renowned director Rajkumar Hirani, the film, which delves into the realm of illegal immigration through the comedic lens of ‘donkey flight,’ has marked its 16th day with a slight dip in earnings.
According to the latest insights from sacnilk.com, “Dunki” is anticipated to amass approximately ₹1.65 crore on its 16th day, recording the lowest box office collections in India thus far. With an overall occupancy rate of 9.20 percent on Friday, the film’s total earnings in India have reached approximately ₹208.2 crore, showcasing a decline in comparison to its earlier box office figures.
Entering the esteemed ₹200 crore club during its second week, “Dunki” holds the distinction of being Shah Rukh Khan’s maiden collaboration with director Rajkumar Hirani, marking the duo’s inaugural cinematic endeavor.
This comedy-drama, which explores themes of friendship, borders, longing for home, and love, features a stellar ensemble cast including Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover. Crafted from a script co-written by Rajkumar Hirani with Abhijaat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon, “Dunki” has been jointly presented by JIO Studios, Red Chillies Entertainment, and Rajkumar Hirani Films.
“Dunki” signifies Shah Rukh Khan’s third and final cinematic release of 2023, following the action-packed blockbusters “Pathaan” and “Jawan.” Despite a mixed reception from critics and audiences alike, the film recently received a special screening at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Expressing his sentiments about “Dunki,” Shah Rukh Khan shared during an event in Dubai, “This film is very close to my heart…I started the year with Pathaan, which was always ladies first, and I want to end the year with a film for myself. So, please watch Dunki on December 21. Everyone will find something in the film that will touch their heart. The film will make you laugh also.”
As “Dunki” continues its cinematic journey, its box office performance remains under scrutiny, with audiences and critics observing its trajectory in the coming weeks.
