Sanjay Leela Bhansali Considers Salman Khan His Only Friend in the Industry Despite 'Inshallah' Being Shelved

Renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali recently opened up about his close friendship with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, despite the shelving of their much-anticipated project, Inshallah. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Bhansali shared insights into their bond and the enduring nature of their friendship.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently in the spotlight for his latest Netflix series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which released on May 1 and has garnered mixed reviews. Amidst the discussions surrounding his new release, Bhansali reflected on his relationship with Salman Khan, emphasizing that their friendship has remained strong even though Inshallah did not come to fruition.

“The only person that I’m still friendly with is Salman Khan. Even if Inshallah didn’t happen, he stands by me. He’ll call me; he’ll care for me. ‘Are you okay? Is there anything (you need)? You’ve goofed up, you messed up’. I enjoy his humour so much. It (phone call) comes once in three months, once in five months, but it comes because he doesn’t care about my film. He cares about me. ‘You, bro, you’ve done so many films with me, it doesn’t matter. Are you okay?’ And that is what it is all about,” Bhansali revealed.

Bhansali acknowledged that while they may have had disagreements on work-related matters, their personal bond has remained unaffected. “On work, we may have sparred, we may have not had our moment correct, and it didn’t fall into place. But after one month, he called me, and I called him, and we talked. So that is a friend. In that sense, I’m fortunate enough to have that friend who once in six months will speak and will exactly start from where we left,” Bhansali added.

Inshallah was poised to be a significant collaboration, starring Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt. However, the project was shelved in 2019 due to creative differences. Despite this setback, the friendship between Bhansali and Khan has endured, showcasing the depth of their personal connection.

Looking ahead, Bhansali is gearing up for his next ambitious project, Love & War, which will feature Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal in the lead roles. The film is slated for release in December 2025, and anticipation is already building among fans.
