Renowned actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu has candidly shared her journey with myositis, an autoimmune condition, and the struggles she faced in being compelled to disclose her health condition to the public. In a recent interview with India Today, Samantha revealed the emotional turmoil she experienced during this period and how it affected her career and personal life.
Samantha expressed that she felt “forced to go public” about her myositis diagnosis, particularly as it coincided with the release of her female-centric film. She recounted the difficulties of dealing with the illness while under public scrutiny, stating, “It was hard and I wasn’t ready… Given a choice, I wouldn’t have come out and announced it.”
The actor also disclosed the emotional toll of being labeled the “sympathy queen” by the public, highlighting the impact of negative perceptions and online scrutiny on her mental well-being. Despite these challenges, Samantha acknowledged that her journey through adversity has shaped her into a stronger and more resilient individual.
Samantha further shared her struggles with impostor syndrome, a psychological phenomenon where individuals doubt their accomplishments and fear being exposed as frauds. She admitted to feeling apprehensive even during career highs, attributing her success to others rather than herself.
In terms of her projects, Samantha was last seen in the film “Kushi” alongside Vijay Deverakonda, receiving acclaim for her performance. She is also gearing up for the Indian adaptation of the action series “Citadel,” starring opposite Varun Dhawan, under the direction of Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK.
Samantha’s openness about her health journey and mental challenges serves as an inspiration to many, shedding light on the importance of mental health awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding autoimmune disorders in the entertainment industry and beyond.
