Salman Khan’s much-anticipated Eid release, Sikandar, has stormed the global box office despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences. The action-packed thriller, also starring Rashmika Mandanna, managed to surpass the ₹100 crore mark worldwide within just two days of its release.
Box Office Performance
According to the production house, Sikandar took a strong opening, collecting ₹35.47 crore gross in India and ₹19.25 crore gross overseas on its first day, making a total of ₹54.72 crore worldwide. On Day 2, the film saw slight growth, earning ₹39.37 crore gross in India and ₹11.80 crore gross overseas, bringing the total to ₹51.17 crore for the day. With this, the worldwide collection of Sikandar now stands at ₹105.89 crore.
The film has also outperformed Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, which had a recorded worldwide collection of ₹100 crore by Day 2. However, independent box office tracker Sacnilk reports that Sikandar has collected ₹55 crore in India alone (₹26 crore on Day 1 and ₹29 crore on Day 2), with a total worldwide earning of ₹95.75 crore.
Salman’s Confidence in Sikandar
At the trailer launch of the film, Salman Khan had confidently predicted Sikandar’s success, stating, “Eid, Diwali, New Year, festive, non-festive—it’s the love of the people. Whether a film is good or bad, they still make sure it crosses ₹100 crore.” He then corrected himself and boldly declared, “₹100 crore is a thing of the past. This film will cross ₹200 crore.”
About Sikandar
Directed by AR Murugadoss and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Sikandar marks Salman Khan’s return to the big screen on Eid after the failure of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan in 2023. The film features a star-studded cast, including Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Prateik Babbar, Sharman Joshi, and Sathyaraj.
While Salman’s action-packed performance has been widely appreciated by his fans, many critics and viewers have called out the film for its weak storyline and underwhelming visual effects.
Critical Reception
In its review of the film, Hindustan Times described Sikandar as lacking depth and engagement. “The screenplay and direction, both by AR Murugadoss, are extremely dull. The film begins straightaway with Salman’s entry. You have practically nothing to look forward to after that because scenes feel rushed, especially in the first half. The editing by Vivek Harshan is choppy. The second half could have been the revelation, but the emotional impact is nil due to the linear approach. It’s like a dumbed-down version of even the quintessential masala potboiler,” the review read.
What’s Next?
Despite the mixed reviews, Salman Khan’s loyal fan base has ensured the film’s commercial success. With Sikandar already crossing ₹100 crore in two days, all eyes are now on its weekend performance to see if it can live up to Salman’s prediction of hitting ₹200 crore.
