Salman Khan, one of Bollywood’s most prominent actors, recently made headlines with his candid remarks about the changing dynamics of the Indian film industry and the future of box office success. Speaking at the trailer launch event for the upcoming Punjabi film “Maujaan Hi Maujaan,” which stars Gippy Grewal, Salman Khan humorously addressed the current state of box office numbers and the coveted ₹100 crore club.
In a lighthearted tone, Salman Khan shared his perspective on the evolving film industry landscape, stating, “I think the ₹100 crore mark is going to be the rock bottom now. Everything would be ₹400-500-600 plus now for the Punjabi industry, Hindi industry, every industry. Even Marathi films are doing these numbers. ₹100 crore is not going to be a very big deal. I think the benchmark should be ₹1000 crore for a film right now.”
This statement reflects the increasing box office expectations in the Indian film industry, where numerous movies have crossed the ₹100 crore mark in recent years. Salman Khan’s prediction suggests that achieving ₹1000 crore in box office collections will soon become the new standard for film success.
During the event, Gippy Grewal expressed his hopes that his upcoming film, “Maujaan Hi Maujaan,” would also achieve significant success, considering Salman Khan’s previous statement. The film is scheduled for release on October 20, and Gippy Grewal remarked, “When our films used to do business of ₹10-15 crore, we would be surprised. Last time, when asked if our film can do ₹100 crore, we didn’t know what to say. But by God’s grace, everything went well. If Salman sir is saying, then something huge will happen.”
Responding to Gippy’s optimism, Salman Khan playfully quipped, “Mere pe mat jana bhai, picture pe jana, kyuki mere khud ke predictions meri films pe nahi chal rahe” (Don’t go by what I say, brother, go by the movie, as my predictions about my own films don’t seem to be working).
Salman Khan’s recent film, “Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan,” earned approximately ₹132 crore nett in India, as reported by Sacnilk.com. Despite the actor’s playful comments about his predictions, his films have consistently been box office hits.
The Indian film industry has witnessed a string of box office successes in recent times, with films like Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan,” which grossed ₹1000 crore worldwide, and Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2,” which has earned over ₹521 crore nett in India since its release in August.
Down south, Rajinikanth’s “Jailer” made waves at the box office, grossing more than ₹650 crore worldwide. The Tamil film, also dubbed in Telugu and Hindi, solidified its place as the second fastest Tamil movie to enter the ₹600 crore club, following Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer “2.0,” released in 2018.
Salman Khan’s perspective on the changing box office dynamics provides valuable insight into the evolving standards of success in the Indian film industry, where achieving ₹1000 crore could soon become the new benchmark for filmmakers and actors alike.
