Saif Ali Khan’s Attacker Hid in Garden for Hours After Stabbing Him, Tried to Mislead Police

The man accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan during a burglary attempt hid in the garden of the actor’s Bandra apartment building for two hours after the attack, police revealed on Monday. The violent incident occurred on January 16, leaving the 54-year-old actor hospitalized and undergoing a five-hour surgery at Lilavati Hospital.

The accused, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, had changed his name to Vijay Das to evade identification. Fakir was arrested in Thane on January 19, three days after the attack, following an intense manhunt.

Misleading Police

Upon his arrest, Fakir initially claimed to be a Kolkata resident named Vijay Das. However, he failed to provide any documents to substantiate his claim. During interrogation, Fakir admitted his true identity and Bangladeshi nationality.

To confirm this, police made Fakir call his brother in Bangladesh, who provided his school leaving certificate via mobile phone. The certificate has become key evidence in proving his nationality.

The Attack

According to investigators, Fakir entered the Satguru Sharan building where Saif Ali Khan resides with his family, intending to steal valuables. It remains unclear whether he was aware that the actor lived in the upper floors of the building.

Following the attack, Fakir reportedly hid in the garden of the complex for about two hours, fearing capture. He later fled the premises.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

Fakir was remanded to police custody for five days on January 21. Officials plan to recreate the crime scene at Saif Ali Khan’s residence to gain further insights into the incident.

Khan, who was stabbed multiple times, is now recovering well, according to doctors.

Ongoing Investigation

The case has highlighted issues surrounding the security of residential complexes, especially those housing high-profile individuals. Police continue to investigate the motives and background of the accused, aiming to determine whether Fakir acted alone or had accomplices.

Authorities have also increased security measures around the actor’s residence following the incident.
