In recent statements, Esha Verma, stepdaughter of actress Rupali Ganguly, has alleged that the Anupamaa star played a role in her parents’ separation and subjected her family to emotional and verbal distress. Esha, daughter of Ashwin Verma and Sapna Verma, shared her side of the story in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, where she discussed the impact Rupali allegedly had on her family life.
According to Esha, Rupali visited their family home in New Jersey and stayed in the bedroom that once belonged to Esha’s parents, an act she found deeply unsettling. “Rupali was the one who came to my house in New Jersey and slept on my mother’s bed—the bed that my father and mother shared,” Esha said. “She has done so much, physically, mentally, verbally, and emotionally, abusing me and my mom.” She claimed that her experiences with Rupali left lasting trauma for both herself and her mother, Sapna Verma.
Claims of Interference in Her Parents’ Divorce
Esha further alleged that Rupali encouraged her father to proceed with divorce from her mother. She recalled that Rupali’s involvement led to increased friction between her parents and ultimately contributed to the dissolution of their marriage. Esha criticized the extramarital nature of her father’s relationship with Rupali, saying, “Regardless of that, having an affair while being married is completely wrong.” She also shared that her father twice attempted to initiate divorce, citing Rupali’s encouragement each time, with her father frequently traveling to India to be with the actress.
Past Social Media Post Resurfaces
This is not the first time Esha has made these allegations public. In 2020, she shared a Facebook post accusing Rupali of contributing to her parents’ separation. This post recently went viral, gaining new attention and sparking a wave of public interest. Reflecting on the renewed attention, Esha told Hindustan Times, “I’ve been seeing it going viral and it’s definitely overwhelming but I’m glad it’s being brought to light.” Esha further emphasized that she has no connection with Rupali, whom she identifies only as her brother’s mother.
Background of the Verma Family
Ashwin Verma and Sapna Verma married in 1997 and separated in 2008. Esha, who now lives in the United States, is their daughter. Her father, Ashwin, remarried Rupali Ganguly in 2013, and the couple has a son, Rudransh.
While Ashwin has denied Esha’s claims on social media, asserting that Rupali was not involved in the breakdown of his previous marriage, Esha maintains that her stepmother’s actions had a lasting, negative impact on her family.
