Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has paid a heartfelt tribute to his Jai Ho co-star Mukul Dev, who passed away at the age of 54 on Friday night. The actor took to Instagram Stories to remember Mukul, sharing an old photo from the sets of their 2014 film Jai Ho and writing, “Miss you, my dear brother Mukul. Rest in peace.”
Mukul Dev’s final rites were conducted on May 24 at the Lodhi Crematorium in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area. He is survived by his family, including his elder brother, actor Rahul Dev.
Mukul was last seen in the Hindi film Anth The End. His death has left fans and colleagues shocked, as many fondly remember his impactful presence both on screen and off.
Born in New Delhi into a Punjabi family, Mukul Dev had strong ties to a village near Jalandhar. His father, Hari Dev, served as an assistant commissioner of police and had a passion for Afghan culture, which he passed on to Mukul. As a result, Mukul was fluent in Pashto and Persian.
His love for performance began early. In Class 8, he impersonated Michael Jackson during a dance program aired on Doordarshan, earning his first paycheck. Before pursuing acting full-time, Mukul was also a trained pilot, having studied at the prestigious Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi.
Mukul’s acting journey started in television in 1996 with the serial Mumkin, where he portrayed Vijay Pandey. He went on to feature in the Doordarshan show Ek Se Badh Kar Ek, a Bollywood countdown comedy series, and even hosted the first season of Fear Factor India.
He made his film debut in Dastak opposite former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, where he played ACP Rohit Malhotra. Over the years, Mukul appeared in a variety of roles across genres, earning praise for his versatility and natural screen presence.
Mukul Dev’s sudden demise marks the loss of yet another talented and multifaceted artist from the Indian film and television industry.
