Ranbir Kapoor Opens Up About Being Labeled a "Casanova" and "Cheater": "It Became My Identity"

In a candid conversation on Nikhil Kamad’s talk show People by WTF, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor addressed the labels that have followed him throughout his career, particularly the terms “Casanova” and “cheater.” These labels, he explained, emerged from his high-profile relationships with successful actresses Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif.

Kapoor, who is now married to Alia Bhatt and a proud father to their daughter Raha, reflected on his past relationships and how they shaped public perception of him. He stated, “Of course, I dated two very successful actresses that just became my identity. I was labelled a cheater for a very large part of my life and still, I am.”

Ranbir Kapoor’s relationship with Deepika Padukone began in 2008 during the filming of Bachna Ae Haseeno, but they parted ways after a year. His subsequent relationship with Katrina Kaif began in 2009, during the making of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, and lasted around six years before ending between 2015 and 2016.

The actor discussed his personal life with equal openness, mentioning his relationship with his late father, the legendary actor Rishi Kapoor. He described his father as a “short-tempered” yet “very good man,” adding that he was always cautious around him. “I never saw his eye colour. I was always like this (chin down). I was just like ‘Yes’. I never said ‘No’,” Ranbir shared.

Regarding his experience of becoming a father, Kapoor described the profound emotional impact of having his daughter Raha. “It is like somebody has taken your heart out and put it in your hand,” he said, adding that Raha seems to connect more with Alia Bhatt, while he engages with her through playful activities.

Ranbir Kapoor also touched upon his struggles with expressing emotions and his experiences with therapy. “I don’t express myself. I don’t cry. I have tried therapy. I have nothing against therapy. I have to open myself and I am very scared of opening myself,” he revealed.

On the professional front, Kapoor was last seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. He is set to star in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayana, which also features Sai Pallavi.
