Ranbir Kapoor Draws Parallels Between 'Animal' and 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham', Unveils Complex Role

Ranbir Kapoor unveiled intriguing insights into his upcoming film ‘Animal,’ directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, famously known for ‘Kabir Singh.’ Kapoor, describing his role as the most complex character he has played, likened the film to an adult-rated iteration of the iconic family drama ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.’

At the trailer launch, Kapoor elucidated on the core of the film, expressing, “Animal is basically the adult-rated Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.” He elaborated on the storyline, emphasizing the protagonist’s unwavering determination to safeguard his family.

The trailer introduces viewers to a world steeped in violence and emotional turmoil, centered around Ranbir’s character, Arjun Singh, and his tumultuous relationship with his father, portrayed by Anil Kapoor.

Reflecting on his role, Kapoor praised director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s multifaceted approach in sculpting complex characters. He noted the challenges of portraying such depth and complexity while juggling personal life as he embraced fatherhood during the filming period.

Actor Bobby Deol, portraying the antagonist in ‘Animal,’ shared an anecdote about his casting, expressing gratitude to Vanga for recognizing a particular expression from his past, ultimately influencing his selection for the role.

Despite their on-screen adversarial dynamic, Bobby Deol lauded Kapoor for his humility and acting prowess, forming a camaraderie that illuminated the trailer launch.

The trailer, spanning 3.32 minutes, provides a glimpse into a hyper-masculine and violent world, prompting discussions about the nature of violence and its portrayal in the film. Ranbir Kapoor emphasized that violence, in essence, is more about the human psyche than physical action, prompting introspection within society.

Addressing parallels between the film and his personal life, Kapoor acknowledged reminiscences of his late father, legendary actor Rishi Kapoor, while listening to the film’s narrative.

Actress Rashmika Mandanna, starring opposite Kapoor as Geetanjali in ‘Animal,’ praised Kapoor’s supportive nature on set, highlighting the collaborative efforts that enriched their on-screen chemistry.

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for his unfiltered storytelling, addressed previous controversies surrounding ‘Kabir Singh,’ maintaining a steadfast approach to his narratives and characters.

‘Animal,’ set to release on December 1, has generated immense anticipation, promising an intense, emotionally charged cinematic experience. As Ranbir Kapoor hinted at the potential for sequels, the film’s trailer launch has amplified excitement among audiences eager to witness this visceral portrayal on the big screen.
