Ram Charan and Telugu Stars Condemn Minister Konda Surekha's Remarks on Naga-Samantha Divorce

Actor Ram Charan has joined the chorus of criticism aimed at Telangana Minister Konda Surekha following her controversial remarks linking Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao to the divorce of actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. This backlash comes after Surekha alleged that Rama Rao played a role in the high-profile split, which occurred in 2021.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Ram Charan expressed solidarity with his fellow actors, emphasizing that the film industry will not tolerate such “reckless behavior.” He described Surekha’s comments as “irresponsible and baseless,” asserting that making vulgar public remarks about respected individuals, especially from an elected leader, is shocking. “This kind of slander aims to destroy the fundamentals of our society,” he stated.

Charan further stressed the importance of respecting private lives, stating, “Our private lives are sacred to us and deserve due respect. We are public figures, we must uplift, not tear one another.” His sentiments were echoed by both Naga Chaitanya and Samantha, who labeled Surekha’s comments as “absolutely ridiculous” and urged her to show responsibility and respect for individuals’ privacy.

In light of the minister’s remarks, Chaitanya’s father, renowned Telugu actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, has filed a defamation suit against Surekha, claiming that her statements have harmed his family’s reputation. The uproar has garnered widespread support from other prominent figures in the Telugu film industry, including Chiranjeevi, Junior NTR, Mahesh Babu, and Vijay Deverakonda, all of whom have publicly denounced the minister’s comments.

Following the backlash, Surekha withdrew her statements during a press interaction, clarifying that her remarks stemmed from emotional reactions to comments made by KT Rama Rao. “I do not have any personal animosity towards anyone. Taking the name of a family was inadvertent,” she stated, acknowledging the impact of her words on Samantha’s reputation.

The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between public figures and politicians, raising questions about the responsibility of elected officials in commenting on the personal lives of celebrities. As the film industry rallies together, it remains to be seen how this controversy will influence future discourse around the intersection of politics and personal privacy.
