Dhanush’s latest film, Raayan, has made a notable debut at the box office, earning over ₹12 crore on its first day. Released on Friday, the action thriller marks Dhanush’s 50th feature film and his second directorial venture.
According to early estimates from Sacnilk.com, Raayan garnered a total of ₹12.5 crore nett in India, with the Tamil version contributing ₹11 crore and the Telugu version adding ₹1.5 crore. The film achieved a strong Tamil occupancy rate of 58.65% on its opening day.
Raayan, produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, has been well-received for its engaging storytelling and strong performances. The film features a complex gangster revenge narrative penned by Dhanush, who also stars in the movie. The Hindustan Times’ review praised the second half of the film for its compelling plot twists and well-developed characters, highlighting Dhanush’s skills as a writer and director.
The cast includes notable actors such as SJ Suryah, Prakash Raj, Selvaraghavan, Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Saravanan. The film’s music and background score, composed by AR Rahman, marks the fourth collaboration between the legendary composer and Dhanush, following successful projects like Raanjhanaa, Maryan, and Atrangi Re.
In recent news, Dhanush faced some criticism over comments regarding his decision to buy a house in Poes Garden, a prestigious area known for housing celebrities like Rajinikanth and the late Jayalalitha. Despite the controversy, the actor’s focus remains on the success of Raayan.
