Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia has achieved a historic milestone by securing two nominations at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards for her debut fiction feature, All We Imagine As Light. Kapadia is the first Indian filmmaker to be nominated for Best Director—Motion Picture, marking a significant moment for Indian cinema on the global stage.

Kapadia shares her Best Director nomination with renowned filmmakers Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), Sean Baker (Anora), Edward Berger (Conclave), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), and Coralie Fargeat (The Substance).
For Best Motion Picture in a Non-English Language, the nominees include Emilia Pérez, The Girl with the Needle, I’m Still Here, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, and Vermiglio.

About All We Imagine As Light

The Malayalam-Hindi movie follows the lives of three women navigating personal and societal challenges in Mumbai. Prabha (Kani Kusruti), a nurse, finds her life disrupted by a gift from her estranged husband. Anu (Divya Prabha), her roommate and colleague, struggles to find privacy for her relationship, while Prabha’s best friend Parvati (Chhaya Kadam) faces eviction due to property development pressures.

An official India-France co-production, the film is a collaboration between petit chaos from France and Chalk & Cheese and Another Birth from India. It previously won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
