In a commendable start at the Indian box office, “Main Atal Hoon,” directed by Ravi Jadhav and featuring Pankaj Tripathi as the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, made its debut on January 19. According to early estimates reported by Sacnilk.com, the film managed to secure a promising ₹1 crore nett on its first day.

The biographical drama, written by Rishi Virmani and Ravi Jadhav, captures the life and legacy of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, one of India’s most revered political figures, who was honored with the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award.

Pankaj Tripathi’s portrayal of Atal Bihari Vajpayee has already garnered acclaim, with The Hindustan Times praising his solid performance. The review noted, “Pankaj’s solid performance that doesn’t make you blink an eye and keeps you invested in the film. As Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the actor puts on a terrific show and displays a myriad of emotions.”

The review highlighted Pankaj Tripathi’s ability to embody the essence of Atal Bihari Vajpayee without merely mimicking his voice or mannerisms. The actor’s nuanced portrayal, including hand movements during speeches, body gestures in casual conversations, and expressive eyes and smiles, contributed to a captivating on-screen presence.

“Main Atal Hoon” is a joint production of Bhanushali Studios Limited and Legend Studios, with backing from Vinod Bhanushali, Sandeep Singh, Sam Khan, and Kamlesh Bhanushali. The film delves into the life of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, offering viewers a glimpse into the political journey of the charismatic leader.

In an interview with ANI, Pankaj Tripathi reflected on the late PM’s unique personality, stating, “The personality of Atal Bihari Vajpayee is such that it cannot be compared to present-day politicians. He was a poet… He was a leader whose staunchest enemies were also his admirers.”

Tripathi also shared insights into his preparation for the role, recounting attendance at two of Atal ji’s political rallies to capture the essence of the late PM’s public presence.

While the film’s impressive opening day collection sets a positive tone, the true test lies ahead as audiences continue to engage with “Main Atal Hoon.” Pankaj Tripathi’s dedication to portraying the revered leader authentically adds to the anticipation surrounding the biopic, making it a noteworthy addition to the Indian cinema landscape.
