Panchayat Actor Durgesh Kumar Opens Up About His Struggling Days: "Suffered Depression Twice In 11 Years"

Durgesh Kumar, best known for his role as Bhushan in the Amazon Prime series Panchayat, recently shared a candid account of his challenging journey in the film industry. In an interview with Lallantop, the actor from Bihar’s Darbhanga revealed that he has battled depression twice in his 11-year career. Despite these struggles, Durgesh has been receiving more offers since his performance in Panchayat garnered widespread acclaim.

Durgesh emphasized the importance of being prepared on multiple fronts before entering the acting profession. “You need to be prepared psychologically, physically, mentally, emotionally, and economically to be an actor. I have suffered depression twice in 11 years. Unless you are not psychologically, economically, and mentally healthy, please don’t come in the acting field. I am being brutally honest about it,” he stated.

He also highlighted the tough nature of the film industry, cautioning aspiring actors about the challenges they might face. “This is no place to try. This place is filled with crazy people. All the successful people you see today, including Manoj Bajpayee and Pankaj Tripathi, who were my seniors at the National School of Drama, or even Nawazuddin Siddiqui, they are all half crazy people, nobody discloses this,” he added.

Durgesh Kumar’s character Bhushan, also known as Banrakas, was introduced in the second season of Panchayat. His portrayal of an aspiring village pradhan, constantly at odds with the current pradhan played by Raghubir Yadav, has been well-received by audiences.

Durgesh made his film debut with Imtiaz Ali’s Highway and has appeared in films like Sultan, Freaky Ali, Dhadak, and Janpath Kiss. However, it was Panchayat that brought him significant recognition. Recently, he has been seen in films like Laapataa Ladies and Bhakshak.

Panchayat, a popular series on Amazon Prime, stars Raghubir Yadav, Chandan Roy, Faisal Malik, and Ashok Pathak, among others. The show’s portrayal of rural life and its relatable characters have struck a chord with viewers, contributing to its success.
